Nix’s Post-Human World
“The City postulates what it would be like to live in a city that is post man-kind, where man has left his mark by the architecture, but mother nature is taking back these spaces. Flora, fauna and insects mix with the detris of high and low culture.” -Lori Nix
Instead of finding his subject matter, self-titled ‘Non-traditional’ photographer, Lori Nix, constructs it. I find it so fascinating to imagine what a post-human world might look like. I think Nix does a wonderful job of stirring our imagination and giving his take on that world. I think this is pretty cool stuff. It’s funny because I was actually having a conversation with someone about 2012 earlier today, and then I came across these pictures. Nix actually built the diorama of each scene, and then photographed those dioramas. My favorite pieces are the Natural History Museum exhibit and the Cathedral. The contradictions of the crossing of the times and destruction is captured so simply. The collection, called The City, will be on display at ClampArt Gallery in New York City.
