Nneka

Let me introduce you to Nigerian raised, German based hip hop/soul artist, Nneka, if you aren’t already familiar. Look out for her first official U.S. release, Concrete Jungle, coming in February 2010. Think… Bob Marley, Eykah Badu, Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill – ish. For your listening pleasure here is a track from the songstress entitled, “The Uncomfortable Truth.” Check after the jump for Nneka’s November U.S. tour dates. Naija on the rise!”

The soulful r&b artist, Mateo, has had my attention for a while now. And I just can’t seem to get enough of his sound. In reference to his musical influences and his own sound, the LA artist states, “Everything is merging together, and I like that in my music; a mixture rather than one flavor only; R&B/Pop/Alternative/Soul—Urban Mod—if you want to pick a new genre.” He adds, “I want to bring R&B music back to where people actually have some type of emotion when they listen to my music. I want them to feel that not only is it my story, but their story as well; that they identify with it, and will be able to recall the song ten years from now.” AMEN. Purchase his album, Get to Know Me: Live at Swinghouse Studios, on itunes. Also, check out the interview he did with Urban Spin.

Ok, so the acting might be subpar, but it’s about the music!

Well, for starts, you’ve probably already heard songs she’s written for Mary J. Blige, Keri Hilson, Keyshia Cole, T. I. and Flo-Rida. While her lyrics have been out on the radio for a while now, this girl is just getting started artistically! Clearly, she’s starting a new chapter, and she’s opening it with her first single, “Drop It Low.” The singer-songwriter signed with Polow Da Don through his Zone 4 imprint. She got on this track with Chris Brown and came out with a powerful video.

Indigo Children

We-Own-the-Sky.mp3

The concept developed in the 1970s. The name refers directly to the Indigo-colored aura around this certain type of person. Indigo Children are thought to be strong-willed, intuitive and independent individuals. Along with their clear sense of self-definition and purpose, they are seen as being unusually creative and eccentric. These people are those who resist conformity and embrace change. They have been described as extremely empathic individuals and display an unprecedented level of kindness and sensitivity to the world around them.

Are you an Indigo child?
