Healthiness Breeds Happiness Breeds Healthiness
Speaking of small changes….
How hard would it be for you to go a month with no soda? Both regular and diet soft drinks stimulate a pro-inflammatory insulin response, trigger cravings, decay your teeth, acidify and toxify your body and leach minerals out of your bones. Kick your soda habit in favor of water and you may find headaches and many other chronic health problems subsiding. It’s a small change with a big impact!
Ignore Labels: Most of marketing claims are meaningless, and a lot of the data out there is confusing. For instance, many foods give empty claims of being “All Natural” when they are anything but. Never trust the advertising or the marketing image alone.
Read The Label: Don’t worry so much about the calories and grams. Read the ingredients. Most ingredient lists begin with some combination of enriched wheat flour, sugar and oil. Avoid foods like that. Also avoid foods with long lists of ingredients you don’t recognize. Good rule of thumb: fewer ingredients the better! And if you can’t pronounce the ingredients, stay even further away.
Beware Artificial Hungers: Notice what triggers your sudden desires and uncontrollable appetites for unhealthy snacking. Stress and anxiety both masquerade as hunger. Find better ways of dealing with them or warding them off.
Embrace Meditation: Even a few minutes a day can trigger positive transformations in your biochemistry, neurology – even your DNA. Studies show that meditation improves health, happiness and peace of mind. It’s the ultimate health bargain, and a great life skill.
Heal Your Relationships: Mend fences, build bridges, forgive trespasses, grieve losses and let toxic grudges go. Then move on. Get help with this if you need to.
Invest In Your Health: Money spent proactively on your health delivers far better returns than money spent reactively on treating illness and disease. When healthy choices seem “too expensive,” consider the long-term costs of health-sapping alternatives.
“I no longer believed in the idea of soul mates, or love at first sight. But I was beginning to believe that a very few times in your life, if you were lucky, you might meet someone who was exactly right for you. Not because he was perfect, or because you were, but because your combined flaws were arranged in a way that allowed two separate beings to hinge together, in such a harmony that it seemed almost organic.”
V: A Love Letter
Happy Valentines Day:
To all those deep in the midst love, truly experiencing God’s greatest gift, I hope you celebrate Valentines Day responsibly. And remember, love isn’t in a card or a box of chocolates. Love is in spirit.
To all those “without man/woman,” I hope you embrace this day to really love yourself. And let this just be the first day of many alike to come. Know that finding a true healthy love starts with loving ourselves.
And to all those aforementioned and in between, know that love starts within you and spreads out like a ripple. You do not choose who it reaches and who it avoids. If nothing else, let this one day be a reminder of this.
“How hard is it to stop the heart from loving? As hard as it is to stop the eye from blinking, the more you control it, the more it hurts.”
So love and let love!
We may be pixelated, but work with whatcha got. Is it sad that I would rather spend a night with my two year old niece than go out to the bar in the depths of February? I’m going to go ahead and say no. Celebrate the love in your life. (Side note: peep my new glasses that I have been forever reduced to… until I get LASIK that is)
