Valentine

No Comments 14 February 2010

Wishing a Happy Valentines Day to everyone! I find it so interesting that one Holiday could have so much angst surrounding it. In my book, it’s just another day, a reminder of our reality (whatever that may be). Being single is not the end of the world, and every relationship is not perfect. I’m just glad I didn’t buy a Hallmark card this year.

This video’s from back in 2008. The song from the video is actually Shh by Donora, who I did a post on in the beginning of February. Enjoy!

Graphic artist Elza Jo van Reenen’s collection of eclectic art photography has become a popular medium in Holland. After spending a few years studying graphic design, Elza Jo eventually developed her passion by transforming her artistic drive into this experimental artwork you see before you, which was initially inspired at a strip club in Holland. There is something so modern and playful about her work that I love. Check out Elza Jo’s website here.

Don’t know why I love this so much! It reminds me of Chicago-based brother duo Christian Rich’s “Famous Girl” (a favorite of mine which I haven’t listened to in a while) video. The video is brilliant… check it out. There’s clearly a lot of symbolism in it, but I love it on the surface too. It’s definitely not what I would have expected, but it fits the song in a unique way.

Signs of American Life by Stephen Tamiesie

“Traveling across the remote American landscape – particularly the West – I have often felt a seclusion I can only attribute to the foreignness of the topography and the physical distance from other human beings.  Ironically, at times when it seemed I was quite isolated from another person or anything familiar, I did not have to look far before realizing that someone was nearby or had been where I was at one time before me.  Often these signs were of a bizarre nature, yet they produced a strange sense of comfort.  In these photographs I am reminded less of this comfort and more of the observation that the distance between what is familiar and unfamiliar is shorter than I often imagine.” -  Stephen Tamiesie

That last piece with the opening and the sky is awesome. Find more of Stephen’s work on the Behance Network here or visit his website.

I love the mixed media of vibrant paint on black and white photography in these pieces. The paint brings another dimension into the works and somehow brings them to life, giving them an energy. Find out more about the Artist here or visit their website.

Nelson Mandela and The Game that Made A Nation

Clint Eastwood’s Invictus starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon, focuses in on the Rugby World Cup of 1995. Shortly after Nelson Mandela emerged from 27 years in prison and became president of South Africa in 1994, he seized upon using a rugby World Cup the following year as an opportunity to rally the entire nation, blacks and whites, behind the far-fetched prospect of South Africa taking it home.

The film, which hit theaters early December, was originally titled “The Human Factor.” However, the later chosen title, “Invictus” refers to a poem that Mandela recited by William Ernest Henley. Freeman, now 72, was cast for the role of Mandela long before the script was written. During a press conference in the ’90s, the South African leader was asked who he’d like to play him in a movie version of his life. His answer: Morgan Freeman. And once you see the movie, you’ll agree, it’s as if Freeman had been born to play this role.

(500) Days of Summer

Boy meets girl
Boy falls in love
Girl doesn’t

First-time filmmaker Marc Webb brings us an unparalleled postmodern love story. (500) Days of Summer is a story about love in real life. I saw this movie over Thanksgiving, and I fell in love. The split screens are brilliant, the team up is perfection, and as for the soundtrack… well that deserves it’s own post. Webb lets you see the City of Angels in a whole new way. Zooey Deschanel is one of my favorite actresses, and I think this is one of her best movies. This is a must see in my opinion. Personally, I’m looking forward to (500) Days of Autumn.

In one scene, Tom questions Summer about her previous relationships, and when asked what had went wrong, she replies, “What always happens. Life.”

Indigo Children

We-Own-the-Sky.mp3

The concept developed in the 1970s. The name refers directly to the Indigo-colored aura around this certain type of person. Indigo Children are thought to be strong-willed, intuitive and independent individuals. Along with their clear sense of self-definition and purpose, they are seen as being unusually creative and eccentric. These people are those who resist conformity and embrace change. They have been described as extremely empathic individuals and display an unprecedented level of kindness and sensitivity to the world around them.

Are you an Indigo child?
