Make It a Habit!

So last night I got to have a lovely dinner at Scoozi with my girl @missPurviP. She got me looking up this “Insanity” extreme workout program with Shaun T. My sister already put me onto P90X this Spring.
Here’s my theory: I think these types of things are a great way to put your foot on the right path. But the road is long, much longer than one cycle of DVDs. How long is the road exactly? Well, as long as your feet will take you. Lot’s of people need some motivation to workout and be healthy.

Here’s where they go wrong: By relying on things like fitness DVDs and trendy diets. When it comes to “diets,” they usually revolve around cutting something out from your diet. The problem? What’s the first thing you want to eat when your diets over? Whatever you were being deprived of! This is only a temporary “fix.”

My suggestions: Life is made up of the habits we create. The most important part about being healthy is establishing good eating and exercise habits.

1. You can eat what you love…. just keep it in moderation.
2. Eat often! Have (healthy) snacks throughout the day. This keeps your metabolism working, and you’ll be less likely to starve and overindulge.
3. Healthy can taste good! A common misconception is that healthy food has no flavor. This is untrue.
4. Stay active! Going to the gym x days a week does not have to be as miserable as it may seem. Try different workout classes- spinning, swimming, yoga(!!), kickboxing, zumba, boxing (!!). Variation is great in your workout regime, so try something new and mix it up.
5. Be reasonable! I’m not saying don’t set high goals for yourself, but if you can’t go two days without your carbs, then don’t! The best way to maintain something is to find what works for you.
4. Make it a habit!! The longer you keep up this lifestyle, the easier it will get and the more you will come to enjoy it. Don’t think of it as a diet for Spring Break. Think of it as the new you!

Look at your bad habits and try to flip them into good ones. As always, this goes beyond food and exercise. Life is one big habit, so make it a good one :)
